Grocery Bag Holder

  • Material cut to 24x18 plus extra for a handle
  • 1/2 inch Elastic
  • Thread and needle or sewing maching

The bag holder is a tube with a pocket at both ends to put elastic into and then a handle at the top for hanging. You can make it any size that you wish.

 

To make the pockets for the elastic... See figure 1

  • Lay the material flat, wrong side up, fold down 1.5 inches from the top and pin. Repeat on the bottom. Sew along the bottom edge of the folds.

To make the tube...See figure 2

  • Fold the material in half, right sides together and sew down the open seam, careful not to sew over the pockets for the elastic.

To insert the elastic...See figure 3

  • Cut 2 strips of elastic to 10 inches each.
  • Thread the elastic into the tube, pull until you have the desired circumference and sew closed. One end should be smaller than the other, You do not want the bags to fall out

  • Cut a piece of material 14 x3
  • Fold in half right sides together, sew down the edge and turn rightside out
  • Attach the handle to the top of the bag
